◆Brief Introduction to Hainan Overseas Chinese Middle School
 

Hainan Overseas Chinese Middle School, the earliest state-maintained overseas Chinese middle school set up in China in 1938, is a key middle school in Haikou and a first-class school in Hainan Province. In 1992, it was rated as elite school.
For the past few years, the school has obtained a series of honorary titles including National Education Advanced Unit, National Youth Science Innovation Demonstration School, Ordinary High School Curriculum Reform Experimental School, National Science Education Base, National ”May 4th” Red Flag Youth League Committee, First-class School in Hainan Province, Outstanding Unit of Talent Construction in Hainan Province and so on.

Pusat Tingkatan Enam Meragang (more locally known as its acronym, PTEM) is a sixth form college located in Kampung Meragang, Brunei Darussalam. PTEM offers Cambridge International Examination AS/A-level examinations.
It covers an area of 4.86 hectares (12 acres) facing the South China Sea. The school has a spacious school lobby and we study in conducive, well-lit classrooms and laboratories. The school library and student centre are places for us (students) to study individually or in groups. Lectures, career talks, presentations and meetings are all held in lecture hall and meeting room.
Our school’s motto is Committed, Progressive and Competitive. In addition to academic excellence, the school strongly believes in character development and participating co-curricular activities. There are programmes for Student Council and Peer Counsellors to help to bring out our leadership skills.
As to co-curricular activities, we are given the opportunity to choose from intellectual, physical and spiritual activities. In addition, students are also offered to participate in national events such as Brunei’s Independence Day and the Sultan’s birthday.

Aleipata College is a Government High School which opened in 1974. The College is situated along the south-eastern coast of the main island of Upolu.

No. of Students: 420 (220 – females, 200 males)

The College teaches a range of subjects in the Samoan Secondary School curriculum including some technical and vocational classes such as Visual Arts, Food, Textiles and Technology and Material Design and Technology classes.

The school was significantly damaged by a deadly Tsunami that hit the south eastern coasts of Samoa in 2009 and killed 143 people. Many current students of the College experienced the Tsunami of 2009, some even losing loved ones to the disaster. The Tsunami was preceded by an 8.1 magnitude earthquake which occurred early morning whilst many children were awaiting the school bus and making their way to school.

The six students of Aleipata College experienced the Tsunami of 2009 and hope to share their experience with their peers during the Summit in order to learn and find ways to prevent casualties in future natural disasters.
