◆Aleipata College Talofa lava! Aleipata College is a Government High School which opened in 1974. The College is situated along the south-eastern coast of the main island of Upolu. No. of Students: 420 (220 – females, 200 males) No. of Teachers: 16 Principal – Mrs Saniie Matamu The College teaches a range of subjects in the Samoan Secondary School curriculum including some technical and vocational classes such as Visual Arts, Food, Textiles and Technology and Material Design and Technology classes. The school was significantly damaged by a deadly Tsunami that hit the south eastern coasts of Samoa in 2009 and killed 143 people. Many current students of the College experienced the Tsunami of 2009, some even losing loved ones to the disaster. The Tsunami was preceded by an 8.1 magnitude earthquake which occurred early morning whilst many children were awaiting the school bus and making their way to school. The six students of Aleipata College experienced the Tsunami of 2009 and hope to share their experience with their peers during the Summit in order to learn and find ways to prevent casualties in future natural disasters.
