Ogata High School is located in Kuroshio Town, 100 kilometers west or 2 hours by car from Kochi City.  If you go 10 kilometers from here, you will reach the Shimanto River, known as the last pure stream of Japan.  If you keep going, further to the southernmost part of Shikoku, you can see Ashizuri Cape, famous for its beautiful sight.  The school is located on a hill from which you can see the pine tree forest of Irino Beach and the Pacific Ocean.  It's located beside the kindergarten, the elementary school, and the junior high school, so it is deeply rooted in the local area.  The school was founded in 2005, as a unit system school with 3 courses, a day time course, a night course, and a correspondence course.  This year is the school's 12th anniversary since its foundation. Shizuoka Gakuen High School respects Japanese traditional culture. Some students are in Kendo, Judo, Tea ceremony, or Japanese Chess clubs. These are example of traditional Japanese cultures. Now, fewer and fewer students in Japan participate in these club activities. But Shizuoka Gakuen is not. Specially, the Judo club has won victory many times.

We are also learning “Dashi”. “Dashi” is Japanese traditional soup stock. “Dashi” holds the key to success in Japanese cooking. It is easy just to hear how to make “Dashi”. But if you try it, you will find that it is deep and delicious.

This year, Shizuoka Gakuen High School celebrated its 50th anniversary. As part of the celebration, Professor Amano, a Nobel Prize winner, gave a lecture. It was a valuable and special experience for us.

We can go through interesting things in this high school. I believe Shizuoka Gakuen is the best high school in the world.(日本語訳はこちら
